‘Nothing but trouble’: Trump slams GOP state senator over opposition to Arizona audit

An ongoing election audit in Maricopa County, Arizona, has received harsh criticism from many in the media and Democratic Party.

One GOP state senator joined the chorus of opposition by insisting that the recount of November’s presidential election makes his party “look like idiots” — and Trump issued a blistering response.

“Nobody knows why”

Using the acronym for “Republican in name only,” Trump dismissed state Sen. Paul Boyer as a “RINO” who is “doing everything in his power” to undermine the audit.

The former president went on to praise Anthony Kern, who is challenging Boyer in the upcoming GOP primary race.

Trump said that the “people of Arizona are demanding” the audit, asserting that the state senator is working against the will of his constituents.

“Boyer has been nothing but trouble, and nobody knows why,” he added. “All we demand is Voter Integrity! He is being primaried by a strong and highly respected challenger, former Arizona State Representative Anthony Kern.”

For his part, Boyer mocked Trump for being banned from Twitter and claimed that he had been responsible for the “insurrection” on Capitol Hill earlier this year.

“So there’s that”

“Had Trump built the wall like he promised, perhaps he could’ve prevented the 40k #BambooBallots from being imported into Arizona,” the Arizona lawmaker tweeted. “And if he hadn’t started an insurrection in D.C. and gotten kicked off here, I could’ve responded directly to him. So there’s that.”

Trump has repeatedly highlighted the Maricopa County audit and similar efforts across the country even as Democrats have dismissed them as partisan ploys to stoke doubts about the legitimacy of the Biden administration.

Other Arizona Republicans are echoing Trump’s concerns, including state Sen. Wendy Rogers, who said that the state’s electors should be withdrawn. In May, however, Boyer said that the entire ordeal has made it “embarrassing to be a state senator at this point.”

Auditors with the firm Cyber Ninjas claim to have found a host of problems with the state’s ballots and Arizona Senate President Karen Fann, a Republican, recently asserted that there was a discrepancy in the vote tally.

Joe Biden’s narrow win by a margin of roughly 10,000 votes came as a shock to many Americans and he became the first Democratic presidential nominee to carry the state since Bill Clinton.
