Biden Goes On Wild Rant: ‘Are There People In The Republican Party Who Think We’re Sucking The Blood Out Of Kids?’

Another day, another bizarre comment from Joe Biden.

While speaking to members of the press late on Wednesday night, a reporter tried asking Biden about members of the Democratic Party voicing support for the idea of defunding the police.

But things got weird when Biden went off on a tangent about “sucking blood.”

Below is a transcript of the exchange:

Biden: “We are not defunding the police, and have not.”

REPORTER: “And are there people who — in the Democratic Party who want to defund the police?”

Biden: “Are there people in the Republican Party who think we’re sucking the blood out of kids?”

REPORTER: “I’m not sure… Are there people in the Democratic Party who…“

Biden: “Oh…”

REPORTER: “Mr. President!”

Last summer, Biden expressed support for taking money from police departments and reallocating it to other places.

“Yes, absolutely,” Biden said on the campaign trail when asked if he agrees that “we can redirect some of the [police] funding.”

Other Democrats have made similar statements.

New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez scoffed at a proposal to strip a billion dollars from the New York Police Department’s budget and suggested it wasn’t enough.

“Defunding police means defunding police,” AOC said in a statement. “It does not mean budget tricks or funny math. It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education’s budget so the exact same police remain in schools.”

Several Democratic leaders have insisted “Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist,” “no more policing,” and that defunded police “looks like a suburb.”

“Governments are going to have to look at how they can reallocate money,” said Harry Reid, the former Senate majority leader. “Of course it’s a good idea if we have more social services rather than police because police are to be our guardians rather than warriors. There are a lot of things we’d rather have a sociologist work through rather than a guy with a gun and a holster.”

Julián Castro, the failed 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and former Housing Secretary, also suggested last year the idea of “rethinking” policing in America.

“Cities spend a huge portion of their local budgets on traditional armed policing when situations on the ground don’t require traditional armed policing,” said Castro. “There’s no question that what’s happened in the last few weeks has channeled, directed, and broadened the calls for change.”

Ted Terry, a D.N.C. member who is the former Democrat mayor of Clarkston, Georgia, called for a 50 percent reduction in police budgets over 10 years.

“Racial justice is absolutely the most prominent and important issue right now,” Terry said.

The New York Times even wrote in a report: “As liberal activists and demonstrators have rallied around the ‘defund the police’ slogan…” when discussing the movement.

So, make no mistake, many Democrats have voiced support — in some capacity — for idea of at least reallocating funds at police departments.
