‘You’re full of sanctimony’: CNN guest slams host Brian Stelter during on-air interview

CNN host Brian Stelter has earned a reputation among critics as a dishonest and self-righteous media pundit — particularly in regard to his coverage of former President Donald Trump.

During Sunday’s installment of Reliable Sources, even his own guest shredded him for his approach.

“Listen more”

Stelter responded with a forced laugh and smile as author Michael Wolff accused him of being a big reason “people can’t stand the media” before going on to give him some specific advice.

Wolff, who was on the program to discuss his new anti-Trump book, turned his attention to Stelter, encouraging him to “listen more.”

He went on to say that the cable news host’s promotion of “virtuous news” was similar to Trump’s condemnation of “fake news.”

The author gained attention for his first Trump-bashing book Fire and Fury and is now promoting his latest workLandslide. Wolff noted that his new book covers the final days of the Trump presidency, bemoaning the “terrible job” many media outlets did in covering the unorthodox administration.

“I thin you yourself, while you’re a nice guy, you’re full of sanctimony,” Wolff advised. “You’ve become the problem — one of the parts of the problems of the media.”

“You’re cracking me up”

A number of social media users made note of the guest’s direct attack on Stelter and the mainstream media.

“You know, you come on here, and you have a ‘monopoly on truth,’ you know exactly how things are supposed to be done,” Wolff continued. “You know, you are why — one of the reasons people can’t stand the media. Sorry.”

Stelter appeared to nervously force out a laugh, declaring: “You’re cracking me up.”

After asking his guest what he should “do differently” as a cable news host, Wolff replied: “You know, don’t talk so much. Listen more. You know, people have genuine problems with the media. The media doesn’t get the story right. The media exists in its own bubble.”

The author was ready when Stelter asked why he would even “bother coming on CNN a few times this week” given his skepticism of the media, to which Wolff replied the he was “a book salesman.”
