The Missouri teenager who received a brutal beating outside a school doesn’t remember what happened and is showing signs of serious cognitive impairment.
Video footage of the incident showing the savage assault of a student from Hazelwood East High School, which left Kaylee Gain fighting for her life with a skull fracture, brain bleeding, and damage to her frontal lobe, went viral last month.
Gain had her head repeatedly smashed into the ground by 15-year-old Maurnice Declue.
A lawyer representing the family said Gain is showing “signs of significant cognitive impairment” after waking from a coma and cannot recall the brawl that put her in hospital.
Gain’s ability to walk is slowly improving but she keeps repeating the same sentences over and over again.
“Kaylee is still showing signs of significant cognitive impairment during the limited conversations that she is able to have, and she tends to reiterate the same short sentences over and over,” said attorney Bryan Kaemmerer.
As we previously highlighted, the family of the black girl who attacked Gain claimed she was the real victim and was “merely defending herself” against “harassment and bullying.”
Maurnice Declue’s family started a Change.org petition claiming the 15-year-old “had never been in trouble” and that “her work as a scholar was tainted by the bullying she had to endure at school.”
The family urged Chief Juvenile Officer Rick Gaines of the 21st Circuit Court “not to charge Maurnice as an adult” because she was “merely defending herself under intense and flight vs fight circumstances.”
A GoFundMe campaign was started to raise money asking the public for $150,000, but it was rightly shut down within hours.
Hazelwood East High School is made up of 96.7% black, and 1.4% white students, but apparently Gain was the real bully.
The school in question has a history of anti-white racism cases and violent confrontations and was awarded the North County Incorporated (NCI) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership Award in 2022.
Declue is apparently keen to apologize to Gain, although the victim’s family still want her assailant charged as an adult.
The story received little attention outside of social media circles, an outcome that would be significantly different if the races were reversed.
