Transgender US Olympic athlete allegedly posted about violence toward the president

Transgender BMX Freestyle rider and U.S. Olympic alternate, Chelsea Wolfe, allegedly posted a bizarre message online in which she discussed exploding the head of the president, according to a Breitbart report.

The allegation followed a social media conversation in which Wolfe was quoted from a YouTube video as saying, “I would never say that someone should explode the head of the president. That would be illegal.”

Following the first comment, Wolfe added, “But I will say ‘with dynamite.’ Because that’s just a sentence fragment and doesn’t actually mean anything. It’s not necessarily related to the sentence that came before it.”

It’s not her first time

The outlandish post is not the first controversial thing she’s posted online, as the U.S. Olympic alternate also faced scrutiny on Monday after Fox News reported another controversial, now-deleted Facebook post she published last year.

“My goal is to win the Olympics so I can burn a US flag on the podium,” Wolfe wrote in a March 2020 Facebook post.

Wolfe later provided a statement to Fox News defending her patriotism, in which she wrote, “Anyone who thinks that I don’t care about the United States is sorely mistaken.”

“One of the reasons why I work so hard to represent the United States in international competition is to show the world that this country has morals and values, that it’s not all of the bad things that we’re known for,” Wolfe added.

“I take a stand against fascism because I care about this country, and I’m not going to let it fall into the hands of fascists after so many people have fought and sacrificed to prevent fascism from taking hold abroad. As a citizen who wants to be proud of my home country, I’m sure as hell not going to let it take hold here.”

How will Americans respond?

Many Americans hold strong views on sensitive social issues such as transgenderism. However, it’s not a stretch to presume that, political ideologies aside, many Americans would likely oppose Wolfe’s views regarding the burning of the U.S. flag, especially on a world stage.

The trend of anti-American sentiment expressed by some athletes at least partially led to a decision made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to ban the wearing of politically charged apparel at the upcoming Bejing Olympics.

Specifically, the IOC is banning athletes from wearing Black Lives Matter (BLM) clothing or emblems, among other similar restrictions. However, the committee will allow apparel and gear that contain the words “peace,” “respect,” “solidarity,” “inclusion,” and “equality.”

Wolfe’s comments will undoubtedly lead to additional controversy as the start of the 2021 Summer Olympics approaches, which is an event already riddled with issues as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
