Former President Donald Trump called out American Jews who “should be ashamed of themselves” if they cast votes for Democrat candidates.
The 2024 presumptive GOP nominee spoke to the criticism being leveled at Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by Democrats and told the “America First” radio program on Monday that the party “hates Israel,” triggering a rebuttal from the White House.
“Could you explain, why is it seemingly that this administration, including Chuck Schumer in the Senate, so hate the man that Israel chose as their prime minister?” host Sebastian Gorka asked the former president. “Why do the Democrats hate Bibi Netanyahu?”

“I actually think they hate Israel,” Trump responded. “And the Democrat Party hates Israel.”
The reference was to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) who came under fire last week after a scathing speech from the floor of the Senate calling for new elections to be held in Israel.
“I believe that holding a new election once the war starts to wind down would give Israelis an opportunity to express their vision for the post-war future,” Schumer said. “As a democracy, Israel has the right to choose its own leaders, and we should let the chips fall where they may. But the important thing is that Israelis are given a choice. There needs to be a fresh debate about the future of Israel after October 7. In my opinion, that is best accomplished by holding an election.”

Trump recalled how Netanyahu and others “begged” then-President Barack Obama not to back the “disaster” Iran nuclear agreement. Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018.
“I really believe they hate Israel, and they also see a lot of votes,” Trump reiterated as he spoke on the radio show.
“Don’t forget, when you see those Palestinian marches, even I– I’m amazed at how many people are in those marches. And guys like Schumer see that and to him, it’s votes. I think it’s votes more than anything else because he was always pro-Israel. He’s very anti-Israel now,” he said of the New York Democrat who is touted as the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in U.S. history.
“Any Jewish person that votes for Democrats hates their religion,” Trump declared.
“They hate everything about Israel and they should be ashamed of themselves because Israel would be destroyed,” he added. “You have Iran now making a nuclear weapon. None of that would have happened with me. That’s a big thing.”
Trump’s comments triggered the White House which blasted Trump for “spreading toxic, false stereotypes.”
“President Biden has put his foot down when it comes to vile and unhinged Antisemitic rhetoric. As Antisemitic crimes and acts of hate have increased across the world — among them the deadliest attack committed against the Jewish people since the Holocaust — leaders have an obligation to call hate what it is and bring Americans together against it,” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said in a statement.
“There is no justification for spreading toxic, false stereotypes that threaten fellow citizens. None. Like President Biden said, he was moved to run for President when he saw Neo Nazis chanting ‘the same Antisemitic bile that was heard in Germany in the 1930s’ in Charlottesville,” Bates said, bringing up the Democrats’ favorite faux story about Trump.
“He will never give hate any safe harbor, including today,” he concluded.
Even the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was triggered by Trump, with its CEO Jonathan Greenblatt who called out the comments as “defamatory.”
“Accusing Jews of hating their religion because they might vote for a particular party is defamatory and patently false,” Greenblatt told Newsweek. “Serious leaders who care about the historic US-Israel alliance should focus on strengthening, rather than unraveling, bipartisan support for the State of Israel.”
But Karoline Leavitt, national press secretary for the Trump campaign, doubled down and called out the Democrat Party as “anti-Semitic.”
“The Biden Administration has given millions in aid to Gaza and the Iranian Regime, Democrats in Congress have signed petitions supporting Gaza terrorists and caved to the demands of Far-Left Palestinian extremists, and Chuck Schumer just called for new elections in Israel while they’re in the midst of defending themselves from the attacks on October 7,” Leavitt told Newsweek in an email. “President Trump is right—the Democrat [sic] Party has turned into a full-blown anti-Israel, anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist cabal.”
