For those of you out of the loop, Gab.ai is the conservative alternative to Twitter, and incidentally, ad-free. Gab came about out of a necessity for free speech, something Twitter doesn’t truly allow. Let me explain.
Twitter is a publicly held company and is beholden to both its shareholders and its advertisers. In other words, what they say goes. Their goal is to make money, therefore, if someone posts something Twitter (or their masters) deem offensive or inappropriate, that user will be penalized – often resulting in banishment from the platform. Sound familiar? Free speech on Twitter is at best, a secondary concern.
Gab, on the other hand, takes a different approach. Gab insists on giving everyone free speech. This is their mission. They refuse to be put in the position of bending to the will of those who would otherwise hold the purse strings. How does Gab do this? Donations. Gab receives about $20,000 per month in donations directly from its users (of which I am one).
Will Gab survive on donations alone? I hope so. The free version will be open to the public in the future. (Currently, it’s still closed to the general public yet boasts about 150,000 users.) Those who have donated have access to their beta app on Android powered devices. Another benefit of donating is the ability to directly upload pictures.
Andrew Torba, the founder of Gab and pictured above, is planning on offering Gab Pro (circa March 15th) for the low monthly cost of “two cups of Starbucks coffee,” which both he and I despise.
Gab Pro features may (or may not) include:
- Earned badges
- Direct messages that vanish after 24 hours
- Instant verification
- Gab TV
- Stronger photo and Gif features
- Longer posts beyond the 300 character limit
The point is this. Sticking to your principles is the right thing to do, money be damned. Gab will succeed because its mission is its principle: Freedom of speech for everyone. Twitter will die because “The love of money is the at the root of all evil.”
The same can be said about this site, USSANews.com. I did not create the site to become rich (and I most certainly am not). I created it because I was utterly sick and tired of uninformed liberal idiots voting away our rights! My mission is to inform and truly educate the public so we stop getting Obamas and Clintons.
Free speech is more than a right, it’s who we are. If you don’t like what someone says, don’t cry, just ignore them, get over it, and grow the hell up! Most Millennials never heard the following rhyme. Perhaps it’s time they do:
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.
Integrity matters, everything else is gravy.
Help Gab out by giving them a donation. I’ll be fine.
