On the Michigan Talk Network: What Is A Mass Shooting? What do the different numbers mean?

Dr. John Lott talked to Steve Gruber on the Michigan Talk Network about the claim that there have been 272 mass shootings this year. The oft-repeated number from the Gun Violence Archive uses their unique definition, and it is often deliberately confused with the much rarer mass public shootings in malls, schools, and other public places where the point of the attack is to kill as many people as possible. Gang fights over drug turf are important, but, as Lott explains, the causes and solutions for these gang wars are very different from mass public shootings.
