Business leaders call for more immigration as French head to the polls

The approximately 47,7 million voters registered on the electoral rolls will choose their regional representatives. And this for a six-year term. French daily Le Monde reported that a high abstention rate is feared, as during the regional elections of 2010 (53,67% percent) and in 2011 during the cantonal elections (55,68 percent).

The president of the National Rally Marine Le Pen voted in Hénin-Beaumont around 11:30 am. She is a candidate in the canton of Hénin-Beaumont 2, alongside the mayor of the town, Steeve Briois. The sector already won by the RN in 2015. The polling stations opened at 8 am. and will close at the end of the day.

In a growing climate of migrant fatigue, ten leaders of large companies in France have expressed their intention to “move the lines” and commit to supporting refugees.

They state: “Each year, France welcomes 50 000 refugees and as many talents! Some of them are graduates, others are not, but all have skills and expertise sought after by organizations, and above all, a strong desire for integration. We, the leaders gathered within the “Refugees Are Talents” collective, are mobilized in favour of the integration of refugees into companies.

“Our movement already has many players: Accor, Barilla, BNP Paribas, Ikea, Ipsos, Keolis, L’Oréal, Michelin, Sodexo and The Adecco Group. Our commitment is at the heart of social and economic issues. Today, while we are living through an unprecedented social and economic crisis, it is up to us, as companies, to move the lines. By getting involved in the issue of supporting refugees, we are responding both to the challenges of our society and we are imagining a new business model where performance and solidarity go hand in hand.”
