A lot of MAGA enthusiasts aren’t going to like this news.
One of Donald Trump’s allies is being removed from his post.
Ron Kaufman, a former treasurer for the Republican National Committee who rose to national relevance working under former President George H.W. Bush, has lost his bid for reelection by a slim two-vote margin.
The voting occurred at a Republican State Committee meeting on April 6 in a Boston suburb.
Brad Wyatt won the election by collecting 37 votes to Kaufman’s 35, a victory that some may call a surprise.
Wyatt is no newbie, he previously supported Ron Paul back in 2012. If you recall, Paul’s campaign performed better than many initially expected, a good sign for Wyatt.
However, Kaufman wasn’t ready to hand over the position just yet.
“I’m still national committeeman until the gavel comes down,” Kaufman said in a brief interview after the results came in.
Kaufman has been active in national politics for a while now, advising Mitt Romney’s presidential bid in 2012.
Janet Fogarty, Kaufman’s counterpart in the national committee easily won her reelection, but commented on Ron Kaufman’s loss:
“He is ‘Mr. Republican National Committee,’ he’s very powerful on a national level, and he’s the go-to guy for guidance for other states. He brings home the bacon. And he’s always been so humble. Many don’t realize what he does behind the scenes for our state party.”
Donald Trump won’t be loving these results either.
Kaufman had initially not really wanted to run for his position once again, but confessed that he was persuaded to do so by the “team down in Mar-a-Lago.”
Despite Trump’s preferred man not winning, maybe Wyatt won’t be TOO bad for our former (and maybe future) president.
Wyatt has previously said that he voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020 and is planning to do the same in 2024.
