CHICAGO, IL – A somber situation unfolded in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood on Tuesday when a 4-year-old boy was critically wounded in a shooting incident. After receiving immediate medical attention at Ascension St. Elizabeth Hospital, the young child had to be moved to Stroger Hospital of Cook County due to the serious nature of his injuries.
As news of the incident spread, it prompted a large convergence of family and friends outside the county hospital. The attendees refrained from commenting on the unfortunate development.
According to information provided by authorities, the drive-by shooting took place near the 3300 block of West North Avenue, just before 4 PM. The child was reportedly seated in a car when he became the unintended target of gunshots, which struck him in the back.
As they were examining the scene, investigators discovered multiple 9mm and rifle casings. A car belonging to an innocent bystander was also caught in the crossfire, sustaining extensive damage.
A witness, who identified himself as Louis, recalled hearing gunfire while having lunch, following which his car was hit by numerous bullets and rammed by another vehicle. The white SUV that hit Louis’ car had its windows shattered. Incredibly, despite the violent intercept, Louis managed to escape unhurt.
Meanwhile, no suspects have been apprehended, and the Chicago Police Department’s Grand Central Area detectives currently head the ongoing investigation.
