When Candace Owens came out last night and called on Target to drop Chrissy Teigen, I was upset. Yes, Chrissy Teigen is a despicable human being. Yes, she is a mouthpiece for the horrible woke mob. Yes, she targeted young girls with cruel and harassing tweets. But we, conservatives, don’t engage in “cancel culture.” Chrissy Teigen has a right, as an American, to be as destructive as she wants to be. If Target wants to keep promoting her, it’s their business decision. And it’s up to the American people whether to keep supporting Chrissy Teigen – and the stores that carry anything she sells.
This was my instinctive conservative reflexive thinking. But when the article in defense of Chrissy Teigen came out today, I was even more upset.
“Teigen publicly apologized for her behavior, posting her thoughts (rather appropriately) on Twitter.
However, trying to destroy someone’s life for appalling things they tweeted 10 years ago, after they offered an apparently sincere apology? Isn’t this exactly the sort of reaction “conservatives” have been complaining about for years?”
Here is my question: how long are we, conservatives, going to defend and come out fighting for people that want us erased and silenced, – and defeating our objectives and movement by doing so? Oh, and in the case of Teigen’s tweets -wanting us dead.
First, there is nothing that Chrissy Teigen has done in the past 20 years that has been even remotely sincere. So I don’t buy any part of her apology. And, it’s not up to the author of the article to accept or reject an apology – it’s up to the person who Teigen wronged. And apparently, the person agrees with my assessment of Teigen.
Second, my fellow conservatives – if it was you, who twitted something 10 years ago, or even 20 years ago, or during your preschool years, and it was you who apologized, Chrissy Teigen would not drop her attempts to cancel you. She would continue to insult you, and she would continue to demand that you lose your job, and she would continue to bully your friends into disowning you. So don’t come out and tell me Chrissy Teigen is now a victim of “cancel culture” and we must come to her defense. She is the one who created this culture – and she is quick to conveniently “denounce” it when it suits her purposes. Don’t help her, and don’t assume she is “sincere” in realizing cancel culture is “wrong.” She is shaming you for cancel culture – the very culture that she championed for years.
Cancel culture is the beast that constantly needs to be fed, and when it runs out of food, it eventually turns on it its own creators.
Cancel culture came for the Golden Globes.
Cancel culture came for Ellen – once a beloved liberal icon.
Cancel culture attempted to cancel Elon Mask – who is as far from conservative as you can get.
And now, cancel culture came for Chrissy Teigen – with more woke heads to roll. As comedian Dave Chappelle correctly noted, “No one is woke enough.” When cancel culture comes for the woke, the woke turn to conservatives to “save” them, shaming us for “perpetrating cancel culture.”
Don’t play this game. It’s their culture – let them have at it.
Cancel culture will suffer a spectacular public demise when enough of the woke mob who created it will fall victim to it.
One of the most quoted axioms from “The Art of War” is: “When your enemy is in the process of destroying himself, stay out of his way.”
