Delta Requires New Hires to Take COVID Vaccine, Current Employees Not Required; Other Airlines Not Requiring It

By B.N. Frank

American COVID-19 concerns have led to recommendations and mandates that many believe have been and continue to be unsafe, invasive, extreme, ineffective, and unnecessary.  Since COVID vaccines are now readily available, there is more pressure than ever for Americans to “get the shot” despite increasing reports, testimonies, and warnings about side effects and deaths among recipients (see 1, 2).  Of course, American vaccine side effects, injuries and deaths are not isolated to COVID inoculations which is why so many are hesitant to take any of them at all (see 1, 2, 3).

Undoubtedly some businesses will require employees to take the COVID vaccine as well as others.  Of course this might affect their ability to keep current employees and hire new ones.

From ABC News:

Delta will require new hires to be vaccinated against virus

If you want to work at Delta Air Lines, you’ll need to get vaccinated against COVID-19

Delta Air Lines will require new employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 starting Monday.

The airline won’t impose the same requirement on current employees, more than 60% of whom are vaccinated, a Delta spokesman said Friday. Delta has about 74,000 employees.

American, United, Southwest and Alaska airlines, however, said they do not plan to require vaccination for current employees or new hires. American Airlines said it gives vaccinated employees an extra vacation day and a $50 gift card.

Delta’s decision comes as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that fully vaccinated Americans can stop wearing face masks in most settings. But a federal rule imposed in January still requires passengers and crews on airlines and trains to cover their faces.

In other Delta news, despite warnings from aviation experts, the airline has partnered with AT&T to give flight attendants iPhone 12s to make it the “First 5G Global Airline”.  That in itself is a reason to seek employment elsewhere.

Of course, legislators are also using a variety of incentives to convince constituents to take the COVID vaccine.  Last month, Kentucky governor, Andy Beshear offered to lift additional mandates after 2.5 million residents were vaccinated.  Earlier this week, Ohio governor, Mike DeWine, announced that mandates will be eliminated in June and he will be using millions of dollars in federal funds to set up lottery-style giveaways for vax recipients.  Stay classy, DeWine.
