In an attempt to lash out at Texas, President Joe Biden imposed a policy suspending the exports of liquid natural gas. This recent move will affect schoolchildren who benefit from LNG sales and hinder energy independence, said Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham last week.
According to Buckingham, “Biden has declared war on Texas and Texas energy.”
“From our wide-open southern border to this latest move to kneecap our economy, it’s clear that our state is in the crosshairs of this current administration.”
The commissioner sued Biden for imposing an LNG export ban.
“Biden’s move to halt these exports will steal money from Texas schoolchildren and lead us further away from true energy independence. I cannot allow that to happen under my watch,” the commissioner wrote in a press release.
The Texas General Land Office, through liquid natural gas exports, lease royalties from oil and natural gas production, and land sales, among others, generates revenue to support the Permanent School Fund.
The office has raised and deposited more than $30 billion in funding in the last two fiscal years alone. With the LNG export application suspension, Texas’ market growth will be gravely affected and thus hurt the earnings that would otherwise help Texas’ schoolchildren.
Buckingham’s lawsuit emphasized that Biden’s policy would only increase methane emissions and could reduce or eliminate significant benefits to the economy, such as jobs, construction, and long-term development.
“The oil and gas industry supports more than 2.5 million jobs statewide, many of which are high-paying and bolster the economy in rural areas of Texas,” Buckingham explained.
“Further, Texas-led energy security allows us to support our allies in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East during times of conflict by providing cheap, clean-burning LNG in lieu of Russian or Iranian gas.”
“In light of these facts, it’s unconscionable that our own federal government would take such drastic steps with the goal of shutting down this thriving industry.” the commissioner concluded.
Early this year, Buckingham hit Biden for using liquefied natural gas to retaliate against the Lone Star State as it continues to defy orders to remove the concertina wires and deploy the National Guard to secure the border.
“In light of these facts, it’s unconscionable that our own federal government would take such drastic steps with the goal of shutting down this thriving industry,” Buckingham said in an interview with Fox News.
“Biden’s ban on liquid natural gas will do nothing more than put our economy, job availability, and national security at risk.”
