Texas Constable Shot During Pursuit With Murder Suspects, Two Suspects Shot

Alvarado, TX. – A Hill County Constable was shot on Thursday afternoon during a police chase of two people.  The Dallas Police Department’s fugitive unit was tracking the two wanted felony suspects when they were located in Ellis County.  Local media reports say the suspects were wanted for murder.

The fugitive unit called for assistance for a traffic stop.  When units arrived and attempted the stop, the suspects fled and a pursuit began. During the pursuit, at least one of the suspects began shooting at officers, striking and wounding Hill County Constable Kevin Cordell.  Constable Cordell was airlifted to a local hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The pursuit ended near Alvarado, Texas when an officer pitted the suspect vehicle. After the vehicle was disabled, both suspects began firing on officers.  Officers returned fire, hitting both suspects.  One suspect is in critical condition. The second suspect was also shot, but their condition is unknown.

The Texas Rangers will lead the investigation.  We wish Constable Cordell a speedy recovery.
