Little Rock, AR – The Little Rock Police Department has released footage from multiple bodycams of an officer involved shooting. The department uploaded video to YouTube that contains footage from dashboard cameras and body worn cameras.
In the footage it depicts officers approaching Michael Smith who is sitting in his vehicle outside of his home early Saturday morning. Smith argues with officers when they approach him and he refuses to roll down his window. An officer opens the driver’s side door and tells Smith to get out. At that point Smith starts the vehicle. A second officer, Coleman Dillon, then goes in front of the vehicle and Smith starts driving striking the officer with the vehicle. Dillon is still standing and points his gun at Smith and at least one shot was fired.
As Smith tries to close the door Dillon’s arm got stuck and he was dragged 15-20 feet before Smith took off. Dillon’s weapon fell into the vehicle. Officers then pursued Smith who shortly after fleeing from police had crashed into a pole. Smith was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for his injuries. He was released from the hospital on Tuesday and faces multiple charges including criminal attempt to commit capital murder, felony fleeing, second-degree battery and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Fortunately Officer Dillon only sustained minor injuries.
