Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson concluded his primetime show on Tuesday questioning why a criminal investigation hasn’t been launched into National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Anthony Fauci.
“In a functional country, there would be a criminal investigation into Tony Fauci’s role in the COVID pandemic that has killed millions and halted our country, changing it forever,” the host said on Tucker Carlson Tonight. “So, why isn’t there a criminal investigation into Tony Fauci’s role in this pandemic?”
Leading up to that final question, Carlson explained why he thinks a criminal investigation into Fauci must happen.
Carlson referenced a recent report published on Medium from Nicholas Wade, the former editor of the science section of The New York Times, in which Wade details Fauci’s involvement in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wade argues, with a substantial amount of evidence to back his claim, that the coronavirus did originate in China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology, contrary to the claims the World Health Organization (WHO).
Wade explains that when the coronavirus began last fall, the Wuhan lab was running experiments to figure out how to make bats viruses that are infectious to humans. It was during those experiments, Wade contends, that the coronavirus escaped from the Wuhan lab.
The United States also had a federal moratorium on funding the kinds of experiments that were being carried out at the Wuhan lab. That’s where things get even more interesting.
Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases reportedly helped fund the experiments from 2014 through 2019, using a loophole that allows for an exception to the moratorium if the experiment is necessary to protect public health or national security.
In other words, as Carlson put it, “this wouldn’t have happened if Tony Fauci didn’t allow it to happen. That is clear.”
If this is all true, then, as Carlson suggests, an investigation into Fauci certainly seems to be warranted.
At a Senate hearing on Tuesday, Fauci responded to — or sidestepped — reports that his agency funded the Wuhan lab’s coronavirus experiments.
“Let me explain to you why that was done,” Fauci said. “The SARS-CoV-1 originated in bats in China. It would have been irresponsible of us if we did not investigate the bat viruses and the serology to see who might have been infected in China.”
