Houston, TX – On Tuesday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office released bodycam footage of an officer involved shooting that occurred in March. Prior to releasing the footage, Harris County Sheriff’s Assistant Chief Mike Lee released a statement describing what would be seen in the footage and a warning that the content was graphic. The shooting had occurred on March 17, and Matthew Hurlock was shot and killed by police during the incident.
On March 17, deputies had responded to reports of a man armed with a knife. Officers attempted to detain Matthew Hurlock but he resisted and fought with deputies. During the altercation deputies fired at Hurlock. While awaiting EMS, deputies administered first aide to Hurlock. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Two knives were found later found at the scene.
Currently there are two investigation being conducted into the incident. One is being led by HCSO Homicide Division and the other is being led by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Civil Rights Division.
