It’s National Police Week 2021 – 2 Texas Deputies, One California Officer Murdered

National Police Week 2021 is not off to a good start. Two Texas Deputies and one California officer were killed in the line of duty on Monday. National Police week was meant to honor the lives of those who have been killed in the line of duty, as well as those who serve every day. There are generally events planned throughout the week in Washington DC and communities throughout the country.

San Luis Obispo officer killed, another wounded

Monday May 10, at around 5:30 p.m., a San Luis Obispo officer was killed and another wounded while attempting to serve a search warrant at an apartment complex. Witnesses stated they heard “very loud” knocking, but didn’t think anything about it at first because they always hear noises in the complex.

Suddenly they heard a gunshot and a police officer shouted “He’s got a gun!” A series of possibly 15-20 gunshots ensued. In the aftermath, one officer was killed, another wounded, and the suspect was dead. The wounded officer is said to be in stable condition at the hospital. (ABC30)

Concho County, Eden, Texas

At around 8:40 p.m. on Monday, a suspect pulled over by two Concho County deputies, then led them on a brief pursuit. He then barricaded himself in his residence and opened fire. Over a dog complaint. According to neighbors, there are 6 vicious dogs in the neighborhood. By the time it was over, two deputies were dead, one civilian, a city employee, was wounded in the stomach and transported to the hospital. The suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as Jeffery Nicholas, 28. He was booked into the Tom Green County Jail with a bond of $4 million on two counts of capital murder of a police officer.

Eden Mayor Pete Torres, who lives near the scene, convinced the suspect to surrender, according to reports. The shooter was barricaded for about 30 minutes during the standoff.

National Police Week 2021 has not started off well. Police officers died in the line of duty – they went to work and never came home. On National Police week, it’s up to us to thank our local officers and encourage them in the light of the current hateful atmosphere. They are still the friends and neighbors who live in our communities. Never forget their sacrifices.
