Stacey Abrams says she ‘absolutely’ harbors ambitions to run for president

Years after she failed to capture the governorship of Georgia, Stacey Abrams is still shooting for the stars.

The Democratic operative told CBS that she “absolutely” harbors ambitions of serving as an American president someday, Breitbart reported.

Abrams didn’t say when she might throw her hat in the ring, but she has opined in the past with great confidence on the likelihood that she will sit in the Oval Office no later than 2040, so there’s still time for destiny to unfold.

Abrams still harbors White House ambitions

Some thought that Joe Biden would pick Abrams to be his running mate last year, but Kamala Harris got the job instead. Still, Abrams isn’t giving up on her dream. “Do I hold it as an ambition? Absolutely,” she told CBS News’ Erin Moriarty.

As she has often done, Abrams framed her personal ambitions as a public service in the context of social justice.

“And even more importantly, when someone asks me if that’s my ambition, I have a responsibility to say ‘Yes,’ for every young woman, every person of color, every young person of color who sees me and decides what they’re capable of based on what I think I am capable of.” She added, “It’s about, you cannot have those things you refuse to dream of.”

Abrams became a Democratic Party superstar after losing Georgia’s governor race in 2018 to Republican Brian Kemp and refusing to concede her loss, which she blamed on racist “voter suppression.”

“Greatest dream”

She insisted to CBS that her response is not comparable to Trump’s, saying, “Words matter….I have always ever fought to make certain that every vote got counted and every person got included.”

CBS obligingly writes that “ensuring that right to vote may someday help Abrams achieve her greatest dream, running for President.”

Cynics might agree that “voting rights” — or voter fraud, depending on your perspective — initiatives that Abrams champions may indeed coincide with, and potentially help her achieve, her “greatest dream.”

If she does ever follow through, recent trends seem auspicious. Georgia flipped unexpectedly blue for Biden, and Democrats picked up both of Georgia’s Senate seats in January, resulting in a narrowly divided chamber.

As the world awaits with bated breath, Abrams — author of eight steamy romance novels — is laying claim to literary greatness with a new legal thriller, While Justice Sleeps.
