Leicester, Mass. – Early Sunday morning a man drove an SUV into the front doors of the Leicester Police Station repeatedly, exited the vehicle and pointed what appeared to be a firearm at officers, and was shot and killed.
Authorities say the man, identified as 24-year-old Zachary Richardson, crashed into the front of the station with an SUV at 6:13Am Sunday morning.
Leicester police Chief Kenneth Antanavica said the front doors to the police station are made of steel and both open outward. He says the man drove the SUV to the front doors and rammed the doors multiple times until almost his entire vehicle was inside the lobby. A dispatcher saw the suspect ramming the station on surveillance video and broadcast to officers in the area.
When officers arrived, Richardson exited his vehicle and placed what appeared to be a rifle on his shoulder and aimed it at the officers. An officer involved shooting occurred and the Richardson was hit. He was transported to a local hospital where he died. No officers were injured.
