The following article, Missouri House of Representatives Approves ‘Rush Limbaugh Day’ to Honor Conservative Talk Radio Icon, was first published on Big League Politics.
The Missouri house of representatives has approved a measure to create an annual “Rush Limbaugh Day” in the state to honor the conservative talk radio icon who died of throat cancer earlier this year.
A bill passed by the Missouri House designates every Jan. 12 as Limbaugh Day throughout the state, which was the late bloviator’s birthday. Democrats are up in arms that Missouri is celebrating Limbaugh while ignoring the late corporate script reader Walter Cronkite. The Missouri House recently rejected a measure to create “Walter Cronkite Day,” as he was a native of Missouri as well.
“Have you ever heard him say any negative things on the radio about any race or another?” Rep. Jerome Barnes (D-Raytown) said to Rep. Hardy Billington (R-Poplar Bluff), who introduced the measure.
“To me, he had been an outstanding deal; he had done so many great things,” Billington responded. “Now I think I told you before he probably had not been perfect by no means of the imagination but he had done an outstanding job.”
Big League Politics has reported about Limbaugh receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom and taking his rightful place in the pantheon of the greatest Americans:
“A day after conservative icon Rush Limbaugh announced his cancer diagnosis live on his afternoon talk radio show, President Donald Trump announced that he would honor him with the Medal of Freedom.
Trump reportedly made the announcement during a private lunch meeting with network anchors. Limbaugh has become a close supporter of President Trump as he has risen to the top of Republican politics.
“I wish I didn’t have to tell you this, and I thought about not trying to tell anybody, I thought about trying to do this without anybody knowing, because I don’t like making things about me,” Limbaugh said on Monday. But “there are going to be days that I’m not going to be able to be here, because I will be undergoing treatment, or I’m reacting to treatment.”
… The White House bestows the Medal of Freedom to “individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”
The Trump administration considers Limbaugh worthy of this honor for his decades raising the banner of conservatism. Limbaugh has often been credited as one of the men who did the groundwork in the fight against the political establishment and the fake news media that led to Trump becoming the President.”
Limbaugh deserves this honor because he was often a lone cultural voice for conservative values as America was slipping away.
