Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called on Muslim nations on Friday to fight against Israel, labelling the nation as a “terrorist garrison” against Palestine.
Khamenei, who was speaking in a televised speech on Iran’s annual Quds Day, asserted that it was a “public duty to fight against the despotic [Israeli] regime,” which he equated to “the fight against oppression and the fight against terrorism.”
Quds Day, which is held on the last Friday of Ramadan, uses the Arabic name for Jerusalem. As noted by Reuters, Iran, a Shi’ite Muslim nation, inherently opposes Israel, backing Palestinian and Lebanese Islamic militant groups which oppose peace in the Jewish state.
Continuing, Khamenei added that “Muslim nations’ cooperation on Quds is a nightmare for the Zionists.”
