Former President Donald Trump’s campaign machinery got a massive boost after a GOP megadonor, who previously supported Nikki Haley during the primaries, finally ran back to Trump’s arms.
His support comes amid growing pressure among the Republican Party to match the Democratic National Committee’s campaign stash.
Billionaire financier Warren Stephens has decided to send big-time funding to Trump’s account. He was a co-chair of the Trump 47 committee’s inaugural leadership dinner in Palm Beach, Florida.
Also present at the dinner were Trump’s former rivals: Senator Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
As reported, the Republican National Committee and the former president successfully raised $50.5 million, almost doubling Joe Biden’s $26 million in his New York event.
On her way into the event, former first lady Melania Trump remarked, “This has been some incredible evening before it even starts because people want to contribute to a cause of making America great again.”
John Paulson, who hosted the dinner, remarked, “Now that President Trump won the primaries, defeating all 10 contenders by a landslide, I think it’s time for Republicans to unite behind him. For that reason, I’m hosting this inaugural event to galvanize the broad support there is for the president.”
Reports also indicated that Trump’s former opponent and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told donors and supporters that he is keen on helping the former president raise funds for his campaign.
DeSantis shared this plan with a group of allies in a private gathering Saturday at South Florida’s Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
An adviser to the Florida governor confirmed this, “He did say it in front of a group of people at the Hard Rock.”
A fundraiser also noted that everyone present at the Hard Rock event will follow DeSantis’ lead and begin raising funds for Trump.
“I would say the majority in the room would now be willing to help Trump,” remarked DeSantis bundler.
Even Roy Bailey, co-chair of DeSantis’ national finance advisory board, shared his plan to raise money for the presumptive Republican nominee, which he did in the previous presidential election.
“I will follow the governor’s lead, and I will do anything that he or President Trump asks me to do to help him win this election,” Bailey said.
“I know where there are DeSantis supporters all over Texas and all over the country that will want to help President Trump. So that’s what I’ll try to make happen,” he furthered.
A Trump campaign adviser, however, noted that they were not aware of DeSantis’ plan but welcomed his initiative.
“Everyone should be working towards defeating Joe Biden and electing President Trump.”
