As a New York panel mulls whether white people will be on the hook for reparations, the input of two members with a history of expressing racist sentiment will be a part of the decision-making process.
It was with great pride that Governor Kathy Hochul signed off on the creation of the committee to study reparations and racial justice in the Empire State, one which was never a state in which legalized slavery existed but many feel that its black residents should be entitled to freebies nonetheless.
But as is often the case with such projects, they serve as a magnet for anti-white bigots and the social media activity of two of those who were appointed to the committee by Democrat New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie have a history of blaming whites for climate change, denigrating Israel, supporting defunding the police and making derogatory remarks about a top black Republican.
“White Folks Messed Up the Weather = Black Folks Save the Planet,” Dr. Ron Daniels, longtime activist and reparations appointee wrote on Twitter, since renamed X, in October, 2021.

Daniels also posted unflattering remarks about Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), a black conservative who is among the names being mentioned as a possible running mate for presumptive GOP nominee Donald J. Trump.
“‘Uncle Tim,’ Scott that is, Who Picked Cotton On the Plantation, Is ‘Still On the Plantation’ = Picked to Be the ‘Black Face’ To Suppress/Black Power/Black Freedom On Behalf of White Supremacy/White Power and That’s ‘The Cotton Picking Truth’ #BewareofUncleTim,” he wrote in May 2021.

More recently, Dr. Daniels expressed his solidarity with the Palestinians aka Hamas in the conflict with Israel.
With silence, comes complacency.
No Homeland. No Peace. No Justice, No Peace in Israel. There will never be peace in Israel until the Palestinians have a home. Military force will quench the thirst of the Palestinian people for justice.

“Dr. Ron Daniels is Founder and President of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century (IBW), a progressive, African centered, action-oriented Resource Center dedicated to empowering people of African descent and marginalized communities,” the governor’s office said in a news release announcing the committee members.
Another member, Lurie Daniel Favors who is the Executive Director at the Center for Law and Social Justice at Medgar Evers College also expressed racist sentiment on social media.
In the name of our ancestors who weep over our fractured communities; in the name of our families whose genealogy is at best a guess and a prayer; in the name of all that is holy & just:
FUCK YOU & YOUR RACE APOLOGETICS. WE WILL NOT BE SILENT. WE WILL NOT MAKE YOU COMFORTABLE.

WE WILL NOT BE SILENT. WE WILL NOT MAKE YOU COMFORTABLE,” she wrote in a July 2019 post to the then-Twitter.
In an April 2021 post, Favors called for defunding the police, a rallying cry for black activists after the death of career criminal and drug addict George Floyd who was turned into a martyr figure after his fatal encounter with police on Memorial Day weekend in 2020, setting off violence across the country, including in New York City.
Police all across the country are literally proving *daily* why #DefundThePolice is necessary. I’m old enough to remember summayall claiming activists were going too far… pic.twitter.com/HGCOlTK6u0

The unearthed social media reports confirmed the suspicions of critics who have been skeptical of Hochul’s reparations panel.
“The commission on reparations was ridiculous from the start. This proves it,” State Conservative Party chairman Gerard Kassar told the New York Post.
“These sound like people who have preconceived notions of what they view as white privilege. Unbelievable. There’s no way these appointees should serve on the commission given their comments,” Kassar said.
“As Americans, we have a solemn responsibility to reckon with our history and that includes understanding the painful legacy of slavery in New York,” Hochul said last month in a statement. “We have assembled an extraordinary group of highly-qualified individuals to serve on the new Commission, and will review their final recommendations.”
