Former President Donald Trump isn’t so concerned about TikTok.
He’s made clear that he’s against a bill that would force the sale of the Chinese app or ban it in the U.S. altogether.
But Facebook?
That’s a different matter.
“TIKTOK IS LESS OF A DANGER TO THE USA THAN META (FACEBOOK!), WHICH IS A TRUE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE,” he raged Thursday on Truth Social in all-caps.
Facebook/Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, you’ll recall, dumped $419 million in “Zuck Bucks” into the coffers of local election officials across the states in 2020.
“THEY SPENT $500,000,000 AGAINST ME AND OUR GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY, ‘LOCKBOXES’ AND ALL, AND SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO DO THAT,” Trump fumed. “TIKTOK DIDN’T.”
By “lockboxes,” the presumptive Republican presidential nominee likely means voter ballot drop boxes.
If you strike down TikTok, he argued, it will only make Zuckerberg more powerful.
“LIKE CROOKED JOE BIDEN, FACEBOOK IS A GREAT THREAT TO DEMOCRACY, AND IT WILL ONLY GET BIGGER AND STRONGER IF TIKTOK IS TAKEN OUT,” Trump stated.
And then the former president illustrated perfectly how quickly that particular slope can slicken with the snot of powerful politicians.
“DO THEM BOTH?” he suggested. “AND RESTRICT THE MONEY ALLOWED TO BE SPENT ON POLITICS, AND LOCKBOXES, BY META/FACEBOOK!!!”
Which begs the obvious question: If those are the new rules, why wouldn’t President Biden find a way to just ban Truth Social?
That kind of power — for any president — is what Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has been passionately arguing against.
“The so-called TikTok ban is a trojan horse,” Massie stated on X.
“The President will be given the power to ban WEB SITES, not just Apps,” he explained. “The person breaking the new law is deemed to be the U.S. (or offshore) INTERNET HOSTING SERVICE or App Store, not the ‘foreign adversary.’”

Prior to the House vote on the ban, which ultimately passed with an overwhelming 352-65 majority, Massie noted, “Next week, the House will vote to give Biden the power to decide which apps you can run on your phone, based on whether he deems them to be owned by a foreign adversary.”
“I’ve never used TikTok,” he said, “but I’m not voting to give the President new powers to ban it and other apps.”

Meanwhile, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) declined to commit to bringing the bill up for a vote in the Senate.
“The Senate will review the legislation when it comes over from the House,” he told reporters on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre urged Schumer to get a move on it.
“We hope the Senate takes action,” she told reporters, “and takes this up very quickly.”
