Anti-Student Teachers Unions Working With CDC To Keep Schools Closed

The pandemic has exposed teachers unions for what they are: anti-student.

They claim to do what’s best for the kids, but when push comes to shove, they do what’s best for them. There are many great teachers, but the unions that negotiate on their behalf are not doing what’s best for students, and they haven’t for a very long time.

A good teacher is worth their weight in gold because an educator who is motivated, passionate, and invested in their work can change a student’s life for the better. But sadly, there are too many self-interested, low-quality teachers in the country, which is clear to see given the horrendous proficiency levels of American students.

And they are aided and abetted by the Democrat party and the Biden administration. The Biden administration’s CDC has even allowed teachers unions to help craft school reopening guidelines—which is interesting because I didn’t realize that public sector teachers unions were all scientists and doctors.

“Follow the science” they tell us.

If they were following the science, they would have opened the schools months ago when study after study showed that kids aren’t significant transmitters of the virus and don’t contact severe forms of the virus themselves.

On Monday, the New York Post reported on emails they had obtained showing the teachers unions coordinating with the CDC to dictate school reopening guidelines, and of course, they intended to make the guidelines as strict as possible so that it would be nearly impossible to completely reopen schools.

The Post reported that “The documents show a flurry of activity between CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, her top advisors and union officials — with Biden brass being looped in at the White House — in the days before the highly-anticipated Feb. 12 announcement on school-reopening guidelines

We were able to review a copy of the draft guidance document over the weekend and were able to provide some initial feedback to several staff this morning about possible ways to strengthen the document,” Trautner continued. “… We believe our experiences on the ground can inform and enrich thinking around what is practicable and prudent in future guidance documents.’”

The CDC then used the exact language sent to them by the union in their recommendations.

The teachers union was ecstatic when the reopening guidelines were announced…because they got their way once again.

The CDC recommended that students be seated 6 ft. from each other, which, given the size of classrooms, would make it nearly impossible for schools to accommodate all students. The teachers wanted to be top priority to be vaccinated, and wanted schools in high-transmission communities to remain closed.

The reason schools aren’t opening at the pace they should right now is simply that the teachers’ unions refuse to go to work. They are hiding behind the threat of COVID and playing on widespread fear to stay home. This is yet another reason why teachers shouldn’t be allowed to unionize. They should have to answer to us, the taxpayers, not a union contract negotiation.

We are the bosses here, and they should never forget that.
