Fox News host Tucker Carlson delivered a devastating broadside Friday against former GOP strategist and pollster Frank Luntz that exposed his “lobbying” for various left-leaning corporate interests.
Carlson continued the verbal assault on Monday but shifted his fire to also target House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), a “personal friend” of Luntz who Carlson revealed is actually renting a room in Luntz’s expensive Washington, D.C. apartment, The Daily Caller reported.
That claim, which even Carlson admitted sounded too absurd to be true, was confirmed as legitimate by a spokeswoman for the top Republican leader in the House.
Carlson devoted his opening monologue on Friday to exposing Luntz, based on the premise that the pollster was delivering bad advice to Republican leaders that increasingly put them out of step with the beliefs and priorities of the average GOP voter.
Carlson noted that Luntz was “particularly close” to and “personal friend” of McCarthy, which the Fox host said explained the “outsized influence” Luntz appears to wield over the leadership of the Republican Party.
The Fox host then exposed Luntz’s ties to Democrat-aligned corporations, his lobbying on behalf of major pharmaceutical companies, and his echoing of left-wing narratives and talking points dressed up as conclusions reached by his focus group discussions.
The Daily Caller noted that Carlson was compelled to revisit that Friday segment during Monday’s program after receiving a bombshell tip over the weekend from an unnamed individual he claimed was a “reliable” source — that McCarthy wasn’t just personal friends with Luntz, but actually roommates while in D.C.
Carlson reiterated his complaints about Luntz’s work with left-leaning corporations, saying Luntz “is not someone that normal people would go to for advice, and if you are running the Republican Party, you definitely wouldn’t because Frank Luntz is effectively a Democrat.”
McCarthy is “mocking his voters”
Questioning why Republicans in leadership appear to listen to Luntz more than their own voters, Carlson revealed the news he had just learned about McCarthy living in Luntz’s D.C. apartment. He also revealed how McCarthy’s spokesperson initially dismissed the claim as untrue but later confirmed that, “because of the pandemic,” McCarthy had been renting the room from Luntz for “fair market value.”
The Fox host further revealed how Luntz’s Penn Quarter building rents condos for around $5,000 per month and wondered if that was how much McCarthy was paying Luntz to stay there. “If Kevin McCarthy isn’t paying market price, he is likely violating House ethics rules on taking gifts. And someday, we have no doubt, we will find out exactly what he is paying,” he said.
Regardless of the price, that wasn’t the real “crime” here, according to Carlson. “Kevin McCarthy’s real crime is mocking his voters. Kevin McCarthy promises Republicans he shares their values. He tells them he’s on their side. He says that he will fight for them against permanent Washington,” yet, “At the end of the day, Kevin McCarthy goes home to Frank Luntz’s apartment in Penn Quarter and he laughs about it.”
As to why GOP leadership seems to listen to Luntz more than voters, Carlson declared the “mystery solved.”
