Trump slams Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney, cheers their failure among GOP base

There is no love lost between Donald Trump and members of the Republican Party establishment who have long been critical of him and even supported the farcical second impeachment effort, such as Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY).

The lack of love for those two politicians appears to increasingly extend to the GOP voter base, and Trump himself couldn’t help but highlight that fact with a pair of statements cheering recent bad news for Romney and Cheney, The Washington Times reported.

“Stone-cold loser” Mitt Romney

First up was Romney, who endured a long and pronounced chorus of boos from the crowd when he appeared on stage Saturday at the Utah GOP Convention.

In a statement issued Monday through his Save America PAC, Trump said, “So nice to see RINO Mitt Romney booed off the stage at the Utah Republican State Convention. They are among the earliest to have figured this guy out, a stone cold loser!”

“Big-shot warmonger Liz Cheney”

A short while later, Trump took aim at Cheney, who ranks third in House GOP leadership and is chairwoman of the House GOP caucus. The congresswoman has reportedly been suffering declining poll numbers among her own constituents after supporting the Democratic impeachment of the former president and continuously engaging in highly critical commentary about him.

In a separate statement Monday, Trump said of Cheney, “Heartwarming to read new polls on big-shot warmonger Liz Cheney of the great State of Wyoming.” He continued, “She is so low that her only chance would be if vast numbers of people run against her which, hopefully, won’t happen. They never liked her much, but I say she’ll never run in a Wyoming election again!”

Flipping the script on “THE BIG LIE!”

That wasn’t Trump’s only tangle with Cheney on Monday, as he had issued an earlier statement regarding his claims of fraud and irregularities in the 2020 election that elicited a sharp response from the congresswoman.

According to the Washington Examiner, Trump issued a tweet-like statement Monday morning, saying, “The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!”

His use of “The Big Lie” to describe the election was a flip of the same phrase used by Democrats — and Cheney — to describe his allegations of fraud.

In a tweet posted shortly after that statement, Cheney asserted, “The 2020 presidential election was not stolen. Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system.”
