Swedish Centre Party politician who has yet to be identified was arrested on Friday on more than one count of child rape according to Breitbart News.
The outlet reported that the politician was arrested at about 11 a.m. on Friday on charges including multiple incidents of child rape believed to have taken place from 2012 to 2015.
According to prosecutor Charlotte Genberg in addition to taking the accused into custody, investigators also seized electronic devices that are believed to be material in the case.
Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that the politician in question was a member of the progressive pro-mass migration Centre Party, led by Annie Lööf. According to Breitbart, “The newspaper claims that the man, who is said to be in his forties, is both a member of the council governing Vimmerby, and also sits on the board of the Centre Party for the municipality.”
The party made a statement, saying that news of the arrest and potentially violent crimes was new information for us that we became aware of through the media.
“It really is a heinous crime for which he is suspected,” representatives of the Centre Party told Expressen. “There is already an exclusion case against this person, due to previous problems he caused.”
According to a local newspaper, Dagens Vimmberby, in addition to being suspected of child rape, the politician is also suspected of committing crimes against someone he had a close relationship with.
The unnamed politician’s arrest comes just over one week after a former employee at the National Association for the Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex People (RFSL) in Stockholm in his fifties was convicted of raping multiple asylum seekers who came to him for help.
He was convicted of five counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault against migrants ranging in age from 26 to 28 and sentenced to four years in prison.
