Tennessee U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) is calling on Senate leadership to take “immediate action” on a bill that would force ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, to divest within six months or face being banned in the U.S.
The bill, which recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a 352-62 vote, currently sits in the Senate Commerce Committee.
Blackburn said her office has received more than 2,000 calls from individuals – some of which are school-aged children – who have made death threats against her, President Joe Biden, and even threatened suicide in an effort to kill the bill.
Despite this, Blackburn said she will not “bow to this intimidation campaign.”
