Joe Biden and the Democrats are in deep trouble.
Biden may have blundered into the one mistake that could cost Democrats everything.
A depressing CNN poll number is making Joe Biden unable to sleep at night.
The corporate media is claiming the American people find Joe Biden’s big spending, socialist agenda broadly popular.
Propagandists in the corporate press cite Biden’s historically below average approval rating for a new President as evidence there is political momentum behind Biden’s program.
Biden had a chance to make his case for a birth-to-death socialist welfare state, open borders, amnesty, gun control, and a federal takeover of elections directly to the American people with his first address to Congress.
The President’s address to Congress—it is not called a State of the Union speech in the President’s first year—usually provides a boost in support for the incumbent’s policy initiatives because the President stands on the floor of a packed House of Representatives to deliver a pep rally-style speech that elicits cheers and applause as he details his legislative initiatives for the upcoming year.
But Biden bombed.
Despite a favorable audience that leaned far to the left of the normal electoral because partisans supporting the party in power tend to watch these affairs, Biden could not garner as much enthusiasm for his proposals as past presidents.
According to a CNN poll, just 51 percent of Americans had a very favorable response to Biden’s speech compared to 57 percent for Donald Trump and far behind the other two presidents of the 21st century.
“The 51% who had a very positive reaction to Biden’s speech is a bit more muted than reaction to the first address from other recent presidents. Barack Obama had the strongest first outing of the last four presidents, with 68% saying they had a very positive reaction to his speech, and George W. Bush in 2001 earned a similar 66% very positive. Fewer — 57% — had a very positive reaction to Donald Trump’s 2017 address,” CNN reported of their poll’s findings.
One reason Biden’s speech may have fell so flat is because Biden did not address the one big area where voters give him failing grades which was the crisis at the southern border.
Biden dedicated a chunk of his speech to his plan to grant amnesty to tens of millions of illegal aliens.
But in his speech, Biden did not present a plan to slow the surge of illegal aliens rushing the border hoping to take advantage of the fact that Biden dialed back Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
CNN’s own polling showed that could be a fatal mistake in next year’s midterm elections.
Nearly eight in 10 Americans believe the situation at the border is out of control, and the vast majority disapproves of how Biden opened the border to illegal aliens.
“Of those polled, 78% view what is going on at the border as a crisis, compared to only 19% who believe otherwise. CNN also determined that 65% of voters disapprove of how Biden is handling the situation, which contrasts sharply with the 29% who approve,” Biden reported.
CNN’s own polling shows that this situation flared on Joe Biden’s watch as a result of Biden’s policies.
In January 2019, just 45 percent described the situation at the border as a crisis versus 52 percent that did not.
Republicans are betting that as the pandemic fades from view other issues will rise in salience.
And the GOP intends to make every Senate and House race next year a referendum in large part on Joe Biden’s botched handling of the catastrophe at the border.
Even CNN’s own polling data shows that could prove to be a fertile line of attack and Biden’s own decisions could come back to bite the Democrats.
