Remember when President Trump told his supporters on January 6 to “fight like hell”? The Democrats and their allies in the media went absolutely nuts. They accused Trump of inciting the riots that followed and tried to remove him from office after he’d already left the White House.
It didn’t matter that only a few minutes before he’d told the crowed to march “peacefully and patriotically.” It didn’t matter that he’d also used the term “fight like hell” metaphorically to refer to his own efforts to appoint Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The media drew a direct line between Trump’s rhetoric and the violent, shameful attack on the U.S. Capitol, and they used that narrative to smear his name on the way out the door.
Over the weekend, California Representative Maxine Waters took a line from Trump’s speech. She also told her supporters to “fight,” but she’s getting a much different treatment from the media.
“If nothing does not happen, then we know, that we’ve got to not only stay in the street, but we’ve got to fight for justice,” she said, standing alongside protesters in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.
If Derek Chauvin, the police officer accused of killing Geode Floyd, isn’t convicted, Waters called on the crowed to “stay on the street” and “get more confrontational.”
“We got to stay on the street. And we’ve got to get more active. [We’ve] got to get more confrontational,” she added. “[We’ve] got to make sure that they know we mean business.”

Unlike Trump, Waters didn’t include a clarification that the protests should be peaceful. Also unlike Trump, she spoke knowing full well that the Black Lives Matter riots have killed dozens of people since the unrest began last summer.
While many have argued that Trump should have predicted the Capitol riot, no one knew how those individuals would act. We know how BLM rioters act. They damage property, steal merchandise, and kill their fellow Americans. Waters has absolutely no excuse to engage in this kind of rhetoric, and if the media were consistent, they’d lay all future BLM death and destruction at her feet.
But they aren’t consistent, of course. Even several days after Waters’ statement, CNN had only aired one single, solitary segment that even mentioned Waters (they’ve since added more coverage, but only after it became clear that the story just wouldn’t go away). And did that segment condemn her words? Did it even hint at criticizing the California Democrat?
It’s a monologue by John Berman “calling out” Senator Ted Cruz for Cruz’s criticism of Waters.
“This might lead one to wonder if this is a case of the pot calling the kettle violent,” Berman said. “Maxine Waters needs to answer to Maxine Waters. This is a week when the nation is very much on edge. But Ted Cruz needs to look in the mirror.”
Berman also excused Waters earlier in the segment, saying, “She didn’t say what type of confrontation.”
To use Berman’s standard against him, let’s contrast his attitude towards Waters with his attitude towards President Trump on January 8.

Spare me, John Berman. You and the rest of the mainstream media are nothing more than Democratic operatives. You give lefties like Waters a pass while condemning President Trump as the root of all evil. Until you can apply your standards equally across both parties, you have no moral legs to stand on. Even worse, you’re contributing to the disunity, hostility, and violence that’s tearing our country apart.
