Recently, Joe Biden approved an aid package to Israel that included F-35 fighter jets.
When the deal was announced, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was among the Democrats who had asked Joe Biden to “reconsider” the military aid package.
After F-35s were reportedly part of the reason that Israel escaped the massive attack by Iran virtually unscathed, Republicans are now openly calling out Democrats for trying to block the package.
Joe, Reconsider
On April 5, 40 Democrats, including Rep. Pelosi, penned a letter to Joe Biden asking him to “reconsider” the aid package he was putting together for Israel.
Democrats were hoping to outright block the package or to remove some key elements of the package.
Dozens of Democrats have been very outspoken regarding Israel, with some calling for the outright removal of Prime Minister Netanyahu while others wanted conditions on the aid that would more or less call for Israel to call for a permanent cease-fire.
The letter, in part, stated, “In light of this incident, we strongly urge you to reconsider your recent decision to authorize the transfer of a new arms package to Israel, and to withhold this and any future offensive arms transfers until a full investigation into the airstrike is completed.
“Given the horrifying facts on the ground, we are also greatly concerned by your recent decision to authorize an arms transfer to Israel, which reportedly includes 1,800 MK-84 2,000-pound bombs, 500 MK-82 500-pound bombs, and 25 F-35A fighter jets.”
Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) was among the Republicans calling out Pelosi and her fellow Democrats on this front after Israel managed to intercept 99% of the drones and missiles that Iran attacked Israel with over the weekend.
Mast stated, “Just last week, Pelosi and the Squad demanded Joe Biden stop transferring ‘offensive weapons’ to Israel. This was akin to them calling for the U.S. to abandon Israel in the middle of a war.
“Can you imagine how much more devastating Iran’s attack would have been if Israel didn’t have American-made fighter jets to shoot down some of these missiles?”
Israel has not yet received the aid package, but the aid was approved in March and should be in Israel’s hands in just a few months.
