In the entire United States Senate, only six Republican senators were willing to vote against a nonsense hate crime bill. Most of the GOP once again surrendered and followed the wishes of the Democrats in approving a bill which supposedly targets “anti-Asian hate crimes.” Senators Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Josh Hawley, Tommy Tuberville, and Roger Marshall were alone among GOP Senators in voting against the bill.
Bipartisan approval for nonsense bill
The national hysteria over “anti-Asian hate crimes” seemed to emerge almost overnight as a result of feverish media attention.
While evidence of any real streak of attacks on Asians is practically non-existent, there seems to be no stopping the obsession which has taken over social media.
Legislation tends to move at a crawl in Washington D.C. but not this bill. The hate crime bill was created with incredible speed, emerging before senators were able to ask any questions about the necessity of actually passing such a bill.
None of this stopped Republican Senator Jodi Ernst and 91 of her colleagues who voted for the bill. Senator Ernst defended her vote by proclaiming that she is strongly opposed to “hate crimes.”
Senator Ernst did not define what exactly a hate crime is, nor did any of the other GOP senators who slavishly obeyed the Democrats and voted to pass the legislation.
Hate crime laws are notoriously vague and easily abused. Even if one accepts the entire premise of such legislation, it inevitably creates all manner of side effects which are not initially apparent.
Senate GOP surrenders en masse
The fact that only six Republican senators had the wisdom or will to not immediately vote for this questionable legislation is a sad reflection of the state of the party.
The dissenting Republicans stated that “the Senate should have the benefit of hearing from the Department of Justice before blindly acting on this issue.”
Instead the Senate has blindly rushed into being another piece of sweeping legislation which will further enable the racial grievance industry and victimhood market.
Whites and Christians, who just about everyone is encouraged to attack, could of course never have such legislation rammed through Congress on their behalf.
Every other group in America is allowed to pile on and join the assault with full bipartisan approval. The fact that only six senators could be found to take even a moderate stand against this nonsense is bad news for Republicans.
Still, American conservatives can at least take some comfort in the fact that some degree of sanity can still be found in a few of their representatives in Washington.
