On Monday, a motorist plowed into the entrance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) building in Atlanta, Georgia, the agency reported.Â
According to the bureau’s statement to Fox News, the vehicle collided with the staff entrance just after noon. the bureau asserted that a man was stopped as he tried to follow an authorized car through the gate.
Following the agents’ request, the motorist was apprehended by the DeKalb County Police. He was sent to Grady Memorial Hospital for a psychological assessment in addition to any potential physical harm.
Driver’s Details
The driver’s name and possible motivation are being investigated by law enforcement. The vehicle was hauled away shortly before 4 p.m. local time, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The FBI has stated that it is doing a routine inspection of the vehicle and that an investigation is still underway.
The driver could be facing a range of charges that could lead to time behind bars or any number of variations of punishment if deemed mentally fit.
Previous Attack
This occurs two years after police in Cincinnati shot and killed an armed man on Thursday morning after he was suspected of trying to attack an FBI headquarters, according to the Ohio Highway State Patrol.
Ricky W. Shiffer, 42, of Columbus, Ohio, was named by highway patrol as the deceased.
After brandishing a firearm toward law enforcement officers at approximately 3:45 p.m. Eastern, Shiffer—who was clad in body armor—was shot by police.
A statement from the State Patrol revealed more facts regarding the events leading up to the subject’s death, stating that he died at the scene of lethal injuries.
According to the State Patrol, the individual was apprehended by officers in his vehicle, leading to a pursuit that escalated as troopers drew up behind him. As police pursued the vehicle, the individual allegedly fired a gunshot from inside.
A warning about violent threats against law enforcement was offered by FBI Director Christopher Wray just one day prior to the 2022 attack. At a news conference in Omaha, Nebraska, Wray characterized threats of violence against law police as “dangerous” and “deplorable.”
