Former President Donald Trump hasn’t been shy in his criticism of President Joe Biden’s administration and the way the new president is addressing various issues facing the country.
According to The Blaze, that’s especially true with regard to Trump’s recent criticism of Biden’s handling of the pausing of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccination. In a recent statement, the former president held nothing back as he excoriated Biden for pausing the vaccine, calling the move “sheer lunacy” and one that only serves to increase already-high levels of vaccine hesitancy in America.
“The science bureaucrats are fueling that deranged pseudo-science,” Trump said in his statement, with regard to pausing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and its effect on amplifying the anti-vax movement.
Trump goes off
According to the New York Post, the 45th president sent out an email on Friday evening, taking quotes directly from The Post’s editorial board on his opinion of the Biden administration’s handling — or mishandling — of the response to seven reported cases of blood clots being potentially linked to the Johnson & Johnson vaccination.
At the crux of Trump’s criticism is the low number of blood clot cases compared to the roughly seven million people who’ve successfully received the Johnson & Johnson vaccination with no issues, noting that Pfizer and Moderna shots also have potentially rare side effects but haven’t been paused as a result.
“Why is the Biden White House letting insanely risk-averse bureaucrats run the show? Just six people out of the nearly 7 million who’ve gotten the Johnson & Johnson vaccine reported blood clots,” Trump’s email statement read.
“Just six people out of the nearly 7 million who’ve gotten the Johnson & Johnson vaccine reported blood clots. The condition is more common in the general population, and every vaccine — indeed, every medication — carries some risk, including the Moderna and Pfizer jabs,” Trump added in the email.
The former president went on to label the move as “sheer lunacy” and argued that it accomplishes nothing other than increasing the already concerning issue of vaccine hesitancy across the country.
Results of the pause
When the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued a joint statement detailing concerns about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, it only took a matter of a few days for public confidence in the one-shot vaccine to drop to 37%, from 52%, with an immeasurable negative impact on Americans who were already on the fence about receiving any vaccine.
Johnson & Johnson executives were quick to issue a statement to the public concerning the surprising pause in distributing the vaccine, reminding Americans that the blood clot cases were extremely rare and still not directly linked to the vaccine.
“At present, no clear causal relationship has been established between these rare events and the [Johnson & Johnson] COVID-19 vaccine,” the company said in a statement.
Only time will tell how the Biden administration will reintroduce the Johnson & Johnson vaccine back to the public as a safe vaccination, but as Trump clearly pointed out, it’s not a stretch to conclude that the damage has already been done.
