Another anti-police, and anti-traditional Democrat, progressive, backed by the same group that supported New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, is coming to New York.
Rana Abdelhamid. A 27-year-old Muslim activist and Google employee is looking to take on longtime Democrat Rep. Carolyn Maloney, The Blaze reported.
The Democratic Socialists’ pick to click for the 2022 congressional election is a Muslim activist named Rana Abdelhamid, a 27-year-old Google employee from Queens, who has accused the New York Police Department of “state-sanctioned violence” and repeatedly echoed the far-left’s favorite chant-o-the-day, “defund the police.”
Abdelhamid announced her candidacy Tuesday with the full backing of the radical Justice Democrats, which now has a massive fundraising video spot at the top of its website for her. The site, which proclaims “the squad is growing,” asks fellow travelers to help “usher in a new generation of diverse, progressive, working-class Democrats with a bold vision to transform our economy and democracy.” The fundraising pitch focuses less on the candidate’s policies and ideas and more on perpetual victimhood:
The candidate, the Post noted, works for Google as a “global marketing and partnerships lead” and has been a longtime advocate for Muslim women’s rights. That advocacy stemmed from what became an infamous attack on her when a man allegedly attempted to rip a hijab off her head when she was a teen. However, she never reported the incident to the NYPD.
The candidate has been a staunch opponent of the New York Police Department, which fits right in with the Democrat Socialist agenda.
“It was the surveillance and the stop-and-frisk policies of the NYPD after 9/11 that pushed me to organize,” she said in September, The New York Post reported.
Her comments were even more controversial in an interview shared to on YouTube in March 2020 by the United Nations Association of the USA.
“The Muslim community post-9/11 in New York — my neighborhood, my street –experienced a lot of NYPD surveillance, a lot of state-sanctioned violence,” the activist said.
And after the killing of George Floyd she penned an essay titled “Dear Non-Black Muslims: To Be Anti-Racist Is To Help Defund The Police.
“Many of you might argue that police are important to maintain civility and keep us safe,” she said with co-author Haleema Bharoocha wrote.
“We must ask the question ‘to keep who safe, from what exactly?’ Islam has a built in model for community care … that we can build in our own communities in practicing the sunnah [customs] and teachings of Islam,” she said.
But if she wants to be a member of “The Squad,” she would fit in fantastic with them as just last week Rep. Rashia Tlaib called for an end to policing and incarceration.
The representative used the shooting of the 20-year-old to call for an end to policing which is, likely but it is tough to tell with all of the insane things Democrats often say, the most asinine thing we have ever heard, The Washington Examiner reported.
“It wasn’t an accident. Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist,” the representative said. “Daunte Wright was met with aggression & violence. I am done with those who condone government-funded murder. No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can’t be reformed.”
Tlaib sent the tweet as people gathered for a second night of protests in Brooklyn Center in response to the fatal police shooting of Wright, 20, during a traffic stop. The officer who shot and killed Wright, identified by police as Kim Potter, shot her handgun when she meant to use a Taser in what authorities have dubbed an “accidental” shooting.
Following the death of George Floyd last summer, Tlaib announced her support for legislation called the BREATHE Act. The bill, which has yet to be introduced, would divest federal money from federal law enforcement entities, close federal detention centers, and incentivize the closure of state prisons, among a host of other things, according to the project’s website.
“We must invest in a new vision of public safety,” she said in a tweet on July 7. “Today, I am proud to join the calls coming out of one of the largest movements for justice that my district and our country have ever seen to say unapologetically: I support the #BREATHEAct.”
