Southern California teen arrested in fatal stabbings of woman and 8-year-old child

A 19-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in the March fatal stabbings of a woman and her eight-year-old daughter  and an attack on a visitor to their home, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced Wednesday, April 14.

Jacob Alan Wright was identified as the suspect in the investigation and was arrested on Tuesday, April 13, following a traffic stop and a search warrant being served at his home, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Wright was arrested on suspicion of murder in the March 7 deaths of Jia Jia, 44 and her eight-year-old daughter Ruby Meng and attempted murder after Jia’s 38-year-old friend was injured during the incident, according to San Bernardino County jail records.

Detectives said there was no known relationship between Wright and the victims and the motive remains unclear, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Charges are expected to be announced by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday, April 15, along with a statement.

On Tuesday, detectives conducted a traffic stop on Wright’s vehicle at 10620 Cedar Avenue in Bloomington and arrested him at about 5 p.m. Detectives then served a search warrant at his home, gathered evidence and conducted a lengthy interview with Wright.

On March 7, a 911 call came in about an “unknown problem” at a home in the 6800 block of Bergano Place in Rancho Cucamonga at about 3 a.m. Deputies found the two victims, who both were pronounced dead at the scene, as well as an injured Rancho Cucamonga woman.

The suspect attacked the victims inside a bedroom before fleeing through a back sliding door. Two other family members were sleeping in the home but unharmed.

The FBI assisted in identifying Wright in connection with the crimes, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Wright is being held without bail. Detectives believe Wright acted alone and there are no outstanding suspects.
