Donald Trump is getting down to the nitty-gritty in his search for a new running mate.
The latest development has all hell breaking loose.
And Donald Trump’s vice-presidential pick broke his silence, and you won’t believe what he said.
NBC News set off shockwaves with a report that Florida Senator Marco Rubio is now at the top of the shortlist to serve as Donald Trump’s running mate.
“Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is moving up the list of former President Donald Trump’s potential vice presidential picks, according to six people familiar with the presumptive Republican nominee’s search for a running mate,” an exclusive NBC News report read.
But one major hurdle is an untested provision of the Constitution that some believe bars the president and vice president from residing in the same state.
“The Electors shall meet in their respective States, and vote by Ballot for two Persons, of whom one at least shall not be an Inhabitant of the same State with themselves,” Article Two, Section One, Clause Three stated.
Rubio responded to the reports from NBC by saying he was open to serving as Trump’s vice president and that any politician would be interested in the job.
“If anybody has been offered the chance to be vice president, they should consider that an honor and an incredible opportunity to serve our country. But that hasn’t happened, I haven’t spoken to anybody on his campaign about it,” Rubio stated.
Rubio even downplayed the tension from the 2016 campaign where Trump battered Rubio with the “Liddle Marco” nickname.
“We’ve had a great working relationship — we ran against each other, so at one point we were competitors — but since 2016, especially when he was president, we worked really well together,” Rubio continued.
Polls show Donald Trump is favored to beat Joe Biden.
Every ambitious Republican in America will throw their grandma in front of a train to get the job as Trump’s running mate as earning that position automatically registers Trump’s pick as the 2028 frontrunner since Trump can’t run for another term.
In a wild interview with ABC’s left-wing radical host Jonathan Karl, Rubio reiterated that he would gladly take the job of Trump’s running mate even though Karl threw every January 6 smear in the book at Rubio.
“Yeah, I think anyone who’s offered the opportunity to serve this country as vice president should be honored by the opportunity to do it. If you’re in public service, I’m in the Senate because I want to serve the country. Being vice president is an important way to serve the country. But I’ve also been clear I’ve never talked to Donald Trump. I’ve never talked to anybody on his team or family or inner circle about vice president. That’s a decision he’s going to make. He has plenty of really good people to pick from,” Rubio stated.
The issue with Rubio comes from conservatives.
Rubio was the lead negotiator on the Gang of Eight amnesty bill in 2013.
Taking on the role as the GOP face of amnesty wrecked Rubio’s standing with the base and created the wide-open lane for anti-establishment, anti-amnesty outside that Donald Trump rode to victory in 2016.
Rubio also caved to the gun grabbers and the media and came out in favor of red-flag confiscation laws after the Parkland tragedy in 2018.
And Rubio is also still a vocal supporter of the Mitt Romney/Liz Cheney foreign policy that conservatives just rejected by nominating Donald Trump for a third time.
If Trump picks Rubio as his running mate, he will be making the same mistake Ronald Reagan made in 1980 when Reagan essentially ended his own revolution by naming establishment RINO George H.W. Bush as his vice president which then led to a generation of the Bush clan running the GOP.
