According to a Republican congressman, the Chinese are doubling down on their efforts to snatch up American land.
Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn.) announced in a social media post Monday evening, “I’m hearing from #MN08 landowners who are getting calls from Chinese companies that want to buy their land.”
“We must protect our assets from CCP influence, which is why I’m proud to back bills like the Prohibition of Agricultural Land for the People’s Republic of China Act,” he added.
The Prohibition of Agricultural Land for the People’s Republic of China Act was introduced in February 2023 by Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), and would prohibit the purchase of public or private agricultural land in the United States by foreign nationals associated with the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
Stauber was a co-sponsor of the bill, and said at the time, “The recent increase in purchases of American farmland by individuals associated with the Chinese Communist Party, especially near military bases, represent an alarming threat to our both our food security and national security. I am proud to join Rep. Newhouse on this important legislation to stop those affiliated with Communist China from buying American farmland.”
The bill, H.R.809, has 83 co-sponsors, but appears to have never yet been voted on.

Stauber, 57, from Duluth, Minnesota, has served in the U.S. Congress since 2019. He is a former professional hockey player and retired law enforcement officer.
He has repeatedly warned about America’s reliance on China.
In November, he spoke out in a hearing against the Biden administration’s continued reliance on China for critical minerals.
“U.S. military readiness would be in danger if China cut off access to critical minerals. Yet this Administration wants to continue our reliance on Chinese-run mines in the Congo instead of allowing Minnesota’s miners to safely develop these minerals here in #MN08. Let that sink in,” Stauber wrote.

In December, Stauber again sounded the alarm about China.
“The Biden Administration is pushing an EV mandate that would eliminate consumer choice, drive up the cost of cars, and make us completely reliant on the Communist Regime of China. Today I will vote to pass the CARS Act to protect American consumers from government dictated EV mandates,” he announced.
