MSNBC host Joy Reid suggested that she would not return to normal life even after receiving two doses of a coronavirus vaccine.
The story: Reid made the comments on Twitter, where she has two million followers. She was reacting to a remark made by her colleague Jonathan Capehart during a panel discussion about Republicans’ opposition to vaccine passports. The guest on the panel, former Democratic congresswoman Donna Edwards, criticized the GOP for not supporting vaccine passports and painted a scenario where Republicans are “running around getting COVID” because of what she said was their skepticism about the vaccines.
“I got shot one,” Capehart jokingly siad. “I’m still going to be wearing my mask. I’m too scurred.”
The “ReidOut” host took it a step further and said she would be similarly “scurred” to walk around without a mask and take part in indoor gatherings even she is fully vaccinated.
“I’m with @CapehartJ – I too am one vax down, but even when I get the second shot, I am too ‘scurred’ to be out there wildin. No flying and no indoor activities for me. Nope!” Reid tweeted.
She then prompted double masking.
“And we double mask in our family — the hospital style one with a cute cloth one on top. Will still be doing that for the foreseeable future. Here’s my fun @thereidout mask!” the MSNBC host added.

She later responded to a Twitter user who claimed he now prefers “being alone or in small groups.”
“Yeah maybe it’s accumulated trauma, but I find it hard to imagine being in large, close quarters crowds any time soon, especially indoors. Personal space has never been more comforting!” Reid replied.
Critics slammed Reid for her tweets, arguing that the MSNBC host is indicating to followers that the vaccines don’t work as well as they should. Other suggested Reid
“Imagine being so reactive that you see people saying ‘I’m not getting vaccinated and still living life as normal’ and responding by saying ‘oh yeah? Well I am going to get vaccinated and still not live life as normal.’ Way to own the Trumpers, Joy,” Tablet Magazine associate editor Noam Blum wrote.
Do these people realize the damage they do to the credibility of vaccines when they repeatedly insinuate they don’t actually protect you from anything?
How does this encourage vaccine-skeptics to get the shot? https://t.co/qMHTYJL6ys

While telling people to get vaccinated, Joy and others are also doing what they can to undermine their own message. Go get vaccinated… so you can double mask it forever. https://t.co/TP5kKFGbl6

I don’t see how this is different than vaccine trutherism. https://t.co/GpH9UIb3IL

This kind of rhetoric doesn’t do much to encourage the people who are vaccine hesitant.
