The West Virginia legislature overwhelmingly passed a pro-life law this spring to inform women about the possibility that she can save her unborn baby’s life through the abortion pill reversal protocol.
WTRF reports the Second Chances at Life Act (House Bill 2982/Senate Bill 609) received bipartisan support in the state Senate on Saturday. The vote was 27-6. The bill also passed the state House by a strong majority in March.
The pro-life bill would require abortion facilities to inform mothers that it may be possible to stop the effects of the abortion drug mifepristone and save her unborn baby’s life. Among the informed consent information that abortion facilities to provide to women, the bill would require that it include the abortionpillreversal.com website and toll-free hotline that women can call to find a doctor trained to do the reversal.

Pro-life leaders in the state celebrated the victory this week. They expect that Gov. Jim Justice, a pro-life Republican, will sign the bill soon.
“Women deserve full information when making this life changing decision,” said West Virginians for Life political liaison Karen Cross. “It will inform the girl/woman that if she changes her mind, she may be able to save her baby with the help of medical professionals.”
Cross said the legislation also adds information about the life-saving protocol to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Women’s Right to Know website.
So far, 12 states have passed similar legislation as part of their informed consent requirements for abortions.
Ingrid Duran, state legislative director for National Right to Life, thanked West Virginia pro-life leaders and lawmakers for ensuring women have access to the life-saving information.
“These laws provide hope and a second chance at life should she choose it, but she must first know that this protocol exists,” Duran said. “… this protocol has already saved over 2,000 babies and hers could be next.”
Though abortion activists try to discredit the abortion pill reversal procedure, research and medical experts indicate that it is safe and effective. The American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a 2,500-member OB-GYN medical group, supports the abortion pill reversal protocol.
The procedure works by counteracting the abortion drug mifepristone, the first of two drugs typically taken together to abort and then expel the unborn baby. Mifepristone makes the uterus inhospitable to new life by blocking the hormone progesterone. The reversal procedure involves giving the mother doses of progesterone to counteract the abortion drug. The abortion pill reversal procedure does not work after the mother takes the second drug, misoprostol, one or two days later.
Anyone who has taken the first abortion pill and wishes to stop the abortion is urged to immediately visit www.abortionpillreversal.com or call the Abortion Pill Reversal hotline at 877-558-0333
