There’s a good reason why former President Donald Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida-based Mar-a-Lago estate is being called the “center of the Republican universe right now.”
According to Newsmax, the 45th president held a large donor retreat at his estate over the weekend, drawing hundreds of deep-pocket Republican donors excited about the future of the party. The former president didn’t reveal his intentions for a 2024 run but made clear that he will do everything in his power to help the GOP take back both chambers of Congress in the 2022 midterm elections.
Trump’s hopeful vision
The former president delivered prepared remarks at the event, with a little bit of Trump-style, impromptu messaging in the mix. His message of hope for the future of the GOP, especially now that President Joe Biden’s administration has, in many opinions, set America back, reportedly went over well with the large audience.
“The key to this triumphant future will be to build on the gains our amazing movement has made over the past four years,” Trump told those in attendance.
“Under our leadership, we welcomed millions upon millions of new voters into the Republican coalition. We transformed the Republican Party into a party that truly fights for all Americans,” the former president added.
At the event, Trump also made clear his disdain for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), even calling him a “dumb son of a b****” at one point, according to several who heard it first-hand.
Former Vice President Mike Pence was also on the receiving end of Trump’s criticism, though not to the same degree. According to a report from an unidentified attendee, the former president told the crowd that he’d recently spoken with Pence and expressed disappointment that Pence didn’t intervene in the congressional certification of the 2020 election.
“I stand before you”
While the $64,000 dollar question remains of whether or not Trump will announce his intentions to run for the presidency in 2024, as the U.S. Constitution allows, he emphasized the importance of first securing GOP wins in both the House and the Senate next year.
“I stand before you this evening filled with confidence that in 2022, we are going to take back the House (of Representatives) and we are going to reclaim the Senate. And then in 2024, a Republican candidate is going to win the White House,” Trump reportedly said.
Pundits and advisers to the former president predict that Trump will remain focused on exposing Biden’s failures at the southern U.S. border and the overall immigration crisis facing the country, as well as other hot-topic issues like “woke” corporate cancel culture.
While the president has mostly pushed out his messaging through official statements from his Mar-a-Lago headquarters, according to Fox News, America might soon resume hearing from him on a more consistent basis as he reportedly has plans to launch his own social media platform.
Only time will tell if Trump’s undeniable political influence will have the intended outcome on the 2022 midterm elections, but even after a rocky exit from the White House, Trump continues to dominate the GOP spotlight.
