The former mayor of Sebastapol was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of multiple sexual crimes involving a child.
Police said in a statement that Robert Jacob was arrested around 7 a.m. on the 7400 block of Woodland Ave. and taken to the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for an arrest warrant related to five felony and one misdemeanor sexual assault crimes against a minor, including against a child of 14 or 15. He was being held without bail.
Sebastapol police said they received information on March 30 about possible sexual assaults that occurred in Sebastapol between December 2019 and March 2021 and identified Jacob as the suspect.
An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Sebastapol police at 707-829-4400.
“Right now, that investigation is ongoing for a determination as to the number of victims,” Police Chief Kevin Kilgore told The Press Democrat.
Jacob, 44, has worked in the cannabis industry for years, founding a medical marijuana dispensary in Sebastapol more than a decade ago. He joined the City Council in 2012 and was chosen by his fellow council members as mayor the next year.
