Burgess Owens Breaks Down Talking About Border Crisis, Blasts Biden And Harris

Utah congressman Burgess Owens got emotional while sharing the things he witnessed at the southern border during a recent visit.

Last month, Vice President Kamala Harris was tapped to lead the diplomatic efforts in curbing the outflow of migrants from Central American countries.

Since being assigned her new role, Harris has not made a visit to the border or held a major press conference addressing the issue. The White House later clarified that Harris would not deal with the “border crisis” directly, but rather would focus on the “root causes” of immigration.

Owens and six other Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee visited the border this week. Democrats on the panel were also invited but none came, according to Fox News.

During a speech in Edinburg, Texas, Owens, a former NFL player, recalled that one young girl was unable to speak “because of the trauma she faced while being gang-raped,” and another, a seven-year-old girl with autism, entered the U.S. alone and couldn’t stop crying.

The girls were reportedly housed at the Donna migrant facility in Texas, where instances of Covid-19 outbreaks and substandard living conditions have been reported.

“It breaks my heart to see these young people, sitting on the floor. I have 15 grandkids; I have one autistic grandson. To see these young babies sitting on the floor — to see this one young girl, autistic, seven-years-old, and the entire time we’re there, she had tears in her eyes the entire time.”

“And we have people in D.C. who couldn’t care less when they see a three and five-year-old girl dropped from a fourteen-foot high wall, when they see a nine-year-old young boy abandoned,” he continued.

“I heard a story last night,” Owens recalled. A young girl, he said, cannot speak anymore because of the trauma she faced while being gang-raped. “These are the stories that we’re not being told. And we have a complicit media, who refuses to talk about this journey, this magnet, of these young girls and boys — many will not make it, many will never talk to their parents again … because we have an administration that does not look at these people as people, but as a strategy.”

“To President Biden and Vice President Harris: Get some backbone,” he blasted the Democrats, according to Fox News. “Get some compassion. Come down to the border and see what mess you’ve made.”

“Whether you’re American or Mexican or Guatemalan, it doesn’t matter,” the congressman continued. “These are our children. And we have an administration that does not have the backbone to come down here and give encouragement to these great men and women (U.S. Border Patrol agents) who are doing the job and are being overwhelmed right now.”

“And by the way,” Owens went on, “I don’t want to ever hear the word reparation again from these Democrats.”

“We are seeing slavery today.  Human trafficking, my friends. Sex trafficking, my friends. Today!”

U.S. Rep. Dan Bishop, a member of the Judiciary Committee, said, “The Trump administration responded well and set up policies that were working. For me all those things now in my mind that are happening are chaos.”
