Moderna vaccine boss among new French billionaires in 2021 ranking

In developing its 2021 ranking, Forbes magazine has listed the richest people in the world who have been able to preserve and increase their capital in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of French billionaires rose to 42 people, compared to 39 the previous year. Among the new arrivals, with a fortune of more than a billion dollars, the 23rd is Stéphane Bancel, the boss of the American laboratory Moderna Therapeutics, in which he holds 8 percent of the capital. With a fortune of $4,3 billion, he is part of the top 25 nationals of France. On the global list of billionaires of Forbes, he occupies only the 665th place.

This year, the first three places in the world ranking are occupied by Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Bernard Arnault. If the boss of Amazon has preserved his position as the richest person on the planet, according to Forbes, Elon Musk has jumped from 31st place to now occupy second.

The French billionaire Bernard Arnault also kept his third place from the previous year. However, even if he hasn’t budged on the list, his fortune has nearly doubled in a year, from $76 billion to $150 billion.
