Hero Down: Bibb County Deputy Christopher Knight Murdered By Handcuffed Inmate

Macon, GA – Bibb County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Deputy Christopher Wilson Knight was murdered in the line of duty while moving a prisoner early Tuesday morning.

The chain of events leading to the 30-year-old deputy’s death began at the Law Enforcement Center at approximately 2:26 a.m., when inmate Albert Booze was being moved to suicide watch because he was threatening to harm himself, WMAZ reported.

The BCSO said deputies had already moved him to a different cell block earlier in the night due to “disciplinary issues,” according to WGXA.

Booze, 22, has been incarcerated at the facility since November of 2020 on charges of trespassing, giving a false name, and criminal damage to property, WMAZ reported.

As a group of BCSO deputies was moving the handcuffed inmate to an observation area in the facility, he allegedly began fighting with them, according to Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Special Agent in Charge Todd Crosby.

Investigators later determined Booze was able to grab Deputy Knight’s knife during the brawl and used it to stab him, WMAZ reported.

BCSO Deputy Jerome Michael Williams, 32, was also injured during the attack, Crosby said.

Deputy Williams will recover from his wounds and has been released from the hospital, WGXA reported.

Deputy Knight was rushed to Atrium Health Navicent, where he was pronounced dead approximately one hour later.

“We’re here on a sad morning for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Davis told reporters, according to WMAZ. “We’ve lost a fine deputy in the jail and had another one injured.”

“There are dangers inherent in what they do, and our hearts go out to them,” the sheriff told WMAZ. “We are proud of their service. We are saddened and shocked by the death of deputy Knight and the injury of Deputy Williams.”

Deputy Williams, who celebrated his 30th birthday on Sunday, began serving the BCSO in 2018.

He leaves behind his two-year-old child, as well as his mother and his ex-wife, WMAZ reported.

“Our prayers go to the family, both blood & blue, of Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Knight who died this morning after being stabbed in the line of duty,” the GBI said in a statement, according to WGXA. “He paid the ultimate sacrifice, and we thank him for his service.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Christopher Wilson Knight, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
