Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is one of the biggest rising stars in the Democrat Party.
But now her future is in doubt.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez left Democrats stunned by seeking this new job.
Speculation continues to grow over Ocasio-Cortez challenging Chuck Schumer in a 2022 primary campaign.
One reason the rumors refuse to die is because Ocasio-Cortez won’t close the book on them.
In an interview with Punchbowl News’ John Bresnahan, Ocasio-Cortez once again ducked the question on if she would challenge Schumer in 2022.
“I’m a no bullshit kind of person. I’m not playing coy or anything like that,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed.
Ocasio-Cortez once again left the door open that she could do more to push her socialist agenda from the Senate than the House of Representatives.
“I’m still very much in a place where I’m trying to decide what is the most effective thing I can do to help our Congress, our [political] process, and our country actually address the issues of climate change, health care, wage inequality, etc.,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
Ocasio-Cortez even refused to endorse the job Chuck Schumer did the last four years as Senate Minority Leader.
“It’s a hard thing to say, too. We’ve had to deal with a fascist president and Mitch McConnell,” Ocasio-Cortez explained.
Ocasio-Cortez provided rocket fuel to these rumors last year.
First, she told Vanity Fair that she did not see herself staying in the House of Representatives forever.
“I don’t know if I’m really going to be staying in the House forever, or if I do stay in the House, what that would look like. I don’t see myself really staying where I’m at for the rest of my life. I don’t want to aspire to a quote-unquote higher position just for the sake of that title or just for the sake of having a different or higher position,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
After the election Ocasio-Cortez sharpened her attacks on Democrat Party leadership.
Democrats failed to take back the Senate outright and lost 14 seats in the House.
Ocasio-Cortez claimed this was the natural outgrowth of the incompetence of the party’s congressional leaders.
“There’s a reason Barack Obama built an entire national campaign apparatus outside of the Democratic National Committee. There’s a reason that, when he didn’t activate or continue that, we lost House majorities. Because the party — in and of itself — does not have the core competencies, and no amount of money is going to fix that,” Ocasio-Cortez declared.
In a podcast interview Ocasio-Cortez went even further.
“Well, you know, I do think that we need new leadership in the Democratic Party,” Ocasio-Cortez told The Intercept.
Host Jeremy Scahill asked Ocasio-Cortez if that meant Democrats needed to replace Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.
“I mean, I think so,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.
Nancy Pelosi was just narrowly re-elected as Speaker of the House so the only chance left to change Democrat Party leadership is for Ocasio-Cortez to primary Chuck Schumer.
And while both are leftists, they come to power from different perspectives.
Schumer is an avatar for the Democrat Party establishment that is funded by Silicon Valley tech firms and Wall Street hedge funds.
Ocasio-Cortez is a grassroots socialist.
Schumer and other establishment Democrats go all-in on the left’s cultural liberalism to maintain the special privileges for tech firms and bail-outs for Wall Street.
These Democrat elites won’t touch the Green New Deal or a government takeover of healthcare because they know they are politically toxic.
Ideologues like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez don’t care and want to eject Schumer and his allies from leadership.
And based on Ocasio-Cortez’s comments she is seriously considering a primary challenge to Schumer.
