Trump slams Karl Rove, calls for Fox News to ‘get rid’ of him as on-air contributor

Since exiting the White House, former President Donald Trump has continued to make it clear that he is no fan of so-called Republicans in Name Only — or RINOs.

In a statement this week, he applied the moniker to longtime GOP strategist Karl Rove, calling on the Fox News Channel to “get rid” of its frequent on-air contributor.

“Muted enthusiasm”

As the Washington Examiner reported, Trump is especially unhappy with Rove in the wake of an op-ed downplaying the former president’s reception at the recent Conservative Political Action Committee.

Through his Save America political action committee, Trump called Rove “a RINO of the highest order” and similarly denounced others in his party, including Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

For his part, Rove pointed to what he described as “muted enthusiasm” for Trump among CPAC attendees, citing a straw poll that showed 68% of those surveyed want to see him mount another White House bid in 2024.

That line was apparently enough to spark a blistering response that referred to Rove as a “pompous fool” and made it clear that Trump was never a big fan to begin with.

“Never had much of a feeling for Karl, in that I disagreed with so many of the things he says,” Trump wrote. “He’s a pompous fool with bad advice and always has an agenda.”

“He and his friend Mitch”

Going on to slam Rove’s appearances on cable news, he described the GOP strategist as “always negative for those who know how to win” and “certainly hasn’t helped Fox in the ratings department, has he?”

Taking his attack further, Trump tied Rove, who rose to prominence as a chief strategist for former President George W. Bush, to the losses of Republicans Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in a pair of U.S. Senate runoff elections earlier this year.

“Should have been an easy win but he and his friend Mitch [McConnell] blew it,” Trump added. Both Rove and McConnell opposed a proposition to send out $2,000 stimulus checks to Americans in the days leading up to the Georgia races, which some critics argue could have shifted the election in the Democrats’ favor.

The 45th president had previously expressed his disdain for McConnell, who blamed him for inspiring a violent riot on Capitol Hill in January.

Even without access to his widely popular social media accounts, Trump supporters can rest assured that he will continue to hit back against those who dare criticize him and his presidential legacy.
